These barred chickens are the oldest breed in America. Brought by the early settlers, they are independent, and robust. Their rose combs give them excellent cold tolerance and they lay well in the heat of summer. They are medium sized and the hens lay 250 light brown eggs per year. This breed is auto-sexing. The female chicks are darker and have a smaller but brighter dot on the head.
